0 commentsAs I write this I am sat in a comfy leather arm-chair in the tastily decorated sitting room of Emma’s (@martianseraph) Father. Around me are many years worth of trappings, there is a model of an old steam locomotive to my left and a Roman bastard sword hanging above my head! Outside I can hear a remote-controlled car being raced down the street, and young voices exclaiming as it launches off the pavement! I am sat alone as we have just finished opening our Christmas presents and Emma and her father have retreated to their respective rooms to get cleaned and dressed for the day ahead.
On the subject of presents there is a niggling voice in the back of my mind at this moment, it is trying to convince me that it is not to early to open one of my many bottles of Christmas scotch (I got six bottles of varying size). However as I have to drive the family (and frail old Granny) to the hotel for Christmas Lunch I suppose that drinking would be a bad idea! Instead I have settled for a bite of Christmas thorntons chocolate to tide me over until the starter!
I hope that you all got something that you wished for this Christmas, and more importantly that you got to see the smile on a loved ones face when they opened the present you picked out for them. We have a range of gifts here; from framed drawings of Bristol (mine from Emma) to farting silly putty (Emma’s to her father!!) with all manners of Christmas edibles in between. However reading through twitter this morning I had to stop and think about those that didn’t get what they deserved, as bad as it sounds I pray that the homeless shelters are full this Christmas. As if they were not there would be someone out in the cold, going with out turkey this year. The online newsreels are already talking of bombings at Church’s in far off lands, not everyone got what they dreamed of this year. I do not say this to remove the Christmas magic from you all, I say it so that when you sit with your family this year and enjoy a well-earned glass of sherry over your feast you simply raise your glass in silence to those who are not there.
My the spirits look down on you all this Christmas where ever you are, be it Bristol town or Helmand Province. To each and every one of you I wish a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
