Art, Bristol, See No Evil, UrbanNelson Street in Bristol is not a place where you would want to act like the proverbial monkey and cover your eyes, rather act like his friend and think no evil as you walk the street and take in the new sights.
Bristol is currently holding host to some of the most talented urban artists in the world, from almost every continent on earth. These artists have taken up residence on Nelson Street for two days, during that time amazing things are going to happen. For those that do not know; Nelson Street is perhaps one of Bristol’s most drab and boring streets, it’s dark and almost deserted of shops. There are several large imposing buildings on the street that haven’t been used in some time; these buildings have now been designated as canvases to be decorated.
I went for a walk around Nelson Street this afternoon with my camera and joined the hundreds of people marvelling at the now beautiful buildings. There were at least twenty people working on murals on the side of the old Bristol Crown Court, this struck me as ironic as that court has seen many an ASBO for graffiti handed down from its seats of power over the years! This event will continue until tomorrow night when it will culminate in a showcase of local music with a party at the Westgate building. The art itself will remain until mother nature decides to wash it away (so a long time!).
If you find yourself walking around town any time soon I highly recommend a walk along Nelson Street (not something I would have said in the past!) so you can see for you self just how amazing some of this work is.
For more details on See No Evil take a look at their website http://www.seenoevilbristol.co.uk. As always you can view some more of my pictures from this event over in my Photos section.
